286 Ladakhi Pilgrims Safely Evacuated from Iran: Depart Qom for Armenia, Reach Julfa
Kargil, 10 March/ VOL News Desk/ Following the military tensions that erupted after the US and Israeli strikes on Iran on 28 February, 286 Ladakhi pilgrims who were stranded in the Iranian holy city of Qom have been successfully moved out of the danger zone. Thanks to the timely and persistent intervention of Ladakh MP Haji Mohammad Hanifa Jan, who maintained continuous contact with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Indian diplomats in Iran, and other concerned authorities, all the pilgrims have safely left Qom and are now heading towards Armenia.
They have already reached the border town of Julfa in Armenia, where the security situation is stable. The MP personally spoke with the pilgrims, who confirmed they are safe and in good spirits. He assured that every possible step is being taken to bring them back to India at the earliest.
At the local level, efforts were also intensified. Nominated Councillor of Hill Council Kargil, Advocate Riyaz Ahmed, accompanied by former CEC Leh, Tashi Gyalson, met the Chief Secretary of Ladakh. They briefed him on the situation and received assurances of full administrative support for the pilgrims’ immediate and safe return.
The Indian Embassy and Government of India remain fully alert to ensure the safety of all Indian citizens amid the rising military tensions in the region.
