Kargil, August 31, 2026/ VOL News Desk/ Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, today attended a career counselling seminar organised by exceptional IAS Academy in collaboration with Jamiatul Ulama Isna Ashariya Kargil Ladakh, aimed at guiding students and aspirants preparing for the UPSC Civil Services Examination and other competitive examinations.

The CEC was the Chief Guest on the occasion, while Member of Parliament Ladakh, Mohmad Haneefa Jan, attended the programme as the Guest of Honour.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon appreciated Jamiatul Ulama Isna Ashariya Kargil Ladakh and exceptional IAS Academy for organising the career counselling programme, describing such initiatives as highly valuable for students seeking clarity and direction in their academic and professional journeys.

The CEC said that the region has never lacked talent, but students have often lacked timely access to proper guidance, information and exposure to successful individuals who have already travelled the path they aspire to pursue.

He highlighted the importance of early career counselling, saying that proper guidance can save students years of uncertainty and help them understand the examinations, preparation strategies, time management and challenges involved in pursuing a career in civil services.

Dr. Jaffer Akhoon welcomed the presence of successful UPSC candidate Peerzada Mohammad Umar, who cleared the examination in 2025. He urged students to interact with them openly and learn not only about their study strategies but also about their experiences, setbacks, time management and perseverance.

“Success in the civil services examination does not come overnight. It is built through discipline, consistency and the courage to continue even when success appears distant,” the CEC said.

He advised students to develop a sustainable daily study routine, read newspapers and journals regularly, revise consistently and avoid comparing their progress with others. He stressed that competitive examinations require patience, commitment and the ability to learn from setbacks.

The CEC also underlined the significance of civil services as a means of public service, stating that officers from the region can bring a deeper understanding of the local people, their language, aspirations and challenges while serving in public institutions.

He encouraged the students to view civil services not merely as a career opportunity but also as an opportunity to contribute to the development of their own society and region.

Dr. Jaffer Akhoon assured the gathering that LAHDC Kargil would continue to support genuine initiatives aimed at expanding educational opportunities and providing quality career guidance to the youth of Kargil.

He particularly appreciated the growing participation and achievements of girl students from the region in education and competitive examinations, expressing confidence that more young women from Kargil would make their mark in the civil services in the coming years.

The CEC said that the future of Kargil should be built on local talent, education and capacity-building, with capable and well-prepared young people becoming contributors to the development of their own community.

Speaking as the Guest of Honour, Member of Parliament Ladakh, Mohmad Haneefa Jan, appreciated the organisers for bringing a career counselling initiative of this nature to Kargil and providing students an opportunity to interact with successful civil servants and UPSC achievers.

He encouraged students to set clear goals, remain focused and work with determination towards achieving their aspirations. He stressed that success in competitive examinations requires sustained effort, discipline and a positive mindset.

The MP urged students to make the best use of the guidance and experiences shared by successful candidates and to remain committed to their goals despite challenges and setbacks.

He also emphasised the importance of creating greater awareness among students about civil services and other competitive examinations so that talented youth from Kargil can increasingly find representation in prestigious national-level services.

During the counselling session Peerzada MohammadUmar, who successfully cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examinations, shared insights into his preparation strategy, challenges and experiences during his journey towards the examination.

He also spoke about the importance of consistency, disciplined preparation, effective time management and maintaining confidence throughout the preparation period.

Their first-hand experiences provided students with practical insights into the examination process and the challenges involved in preparing for one of the country’s most competitive examinations.

The interactive session also provided students an opportunity to ask questions and seek guidance regarding preparation strategies, study material, examination planning and career choices.
