5th Anniversary of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan Celebrated in Kargil
Kargil, November 18/ VOL News Desk/ The 5th Anniversary Celebration of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) was observed with great enthusiasm today at the Conference Hall, Cooperative Office Baroo, Kargil. The program was organized by the District De-addiction Centre (DDAC), Kargil, in collaboration with the Social and Tribal Welfare Department, under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India.
The event was graced by the presence of Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Syed Mujtaba; Deputy Commissioner/ CEO, Kargil, Shri Rakesh Kumar; DSP Kargil, Shri Inayattullah; Chief Medical Officer Kargil, Dr. Liyaqat Ali Khan; DSWO Dr Sarwar Shahzad; Representatives from IKMT, ISK, educational institutions, health officials, youth organizations, and local NGOs.
All dignitaries were warmly welcomed with traditional khataqs, followed by the welcome address delivered by the Social and Tribal Welfare Officer, who highlighted the major achievements of the NMBA over the last five years.

Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Syed Mujtaba, reminded the audience that a drug-free society is a collective responsibility, not just a government campaign. He urged every village, school, and mohala to spread the message: “Nasha se Azadi hi Asli Azadi hai” (Freedom from Addiction is the True Freedom). He appreciated DDAC’s efforts and encouraged youth to choose education and skill development instead of substances that destroy their future.
Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Shri Rakesh Kumar, appreciated the efforts of DDAC, the Police, Health, Education, and Social Welfare Departments, along with youth groups and NGOs. He stated:
“Prevention is better than cure. Awareness, education, and community participation must be the pillars of Kargil’s fight against substance abuse.”
He further stressed that parents and teachers must guide children with early awareness and emotional support. He called for the continuation of supply reduction and strict action against drug suppliers, including the seizure of properties of drug traffickers.
