Student Associations of Ladakh writes letter to MHA demanding Judicial Inquiry in Leh tragic event

The student associations of Ladakh residing in different states have written a letter to Ministry of Home Affairs demanding Judicial Inquiry into the recent tragic event in Leh that resulted in killing of four people and injured dozens.
The original text of the letter is as under:

Joint Memorandum
The Hon’ble Minister of Home Affairs,
Government of India, 1st October, 2025 North Block, New Delhi.
Subject: Appeal for Judicial Inquiry, Humanitarian Relief, and Confidence Building Measures in Ladakh.
Respected Sir,
We, the undersigned members of the Ladakh Students Association across various States and Union Territories, write with deep concern regarding the tragic events in Leh, Ladakh on 24th September 2025. The unfortunate incident, which resulted in the loss of four lives and left many others injured, has caused profound grief and unease in our community.
At this sensitive juncture, we believe that timely and transparent intervention from you is essential to uphold justice, maintain peace, and restore public confidence. In this spirit, we respectfully submit the following appeals for your kind consideration:

  1. Judicial Inquiry:
We request that a fair and impartial judicial inquiry be ordered under the supervision of a sitting High Court Judge to examine the incident of 24th September. A transparent process will not only ensure accountability but also strengthen public trust in the rule of law.
  2. Compensation and Dignified Livelihoods:
In the wake of profound loss experienced by many Ladakhi families, we urgently appeal for comprehensive support. This must include dignified government employment for the bereaved, substantial financial compensation to aid in their recovery, and full medical coverage for all those injured.
  3. Appeal for the Lifting of Sanctions and Release of Detainees:
We urgently appeal for the immediate lifting of restrictions in Ladakh for restoring trust and normalcy to return. We also earnestly appeal for the immediate cessation of measures creating an atmosphere of fear and the release of Ladakhi youths arrested during recent peaceful protests, including environmentalist Dr. Sonam Wangchuk. Their detention has only heightened tensions and grief within our community.
  4. Demanding Accountability from National Media:
We, the people of Ladakh, are unwavering in our patriotism. It is therefore unacceptable that following recent events, segments of the national media have defamed our community by propagating unverified and misleading reports. These false claims, which label Ladakhis as agents or toolkit users, are intolerable and hurt the sentiments of our people. We demand a fair and transparent investigation to ensure media accountability and justice. Furthermore, those responsible must issue appropriate apologies for this defamation.
As citizens of the world’s largest democracy, we remain committed to peaceful dialogue and to the unity and integrity of our nation. We trust that your kind intervention will bring solace to the people of Ladakh and reaffirm their faith in democratic governance.
Thanking you in anticipation of your positive response.
