Anjuman-e-Sufia Noorbakhshia Kargil Condemns Remarks against the community

Kargil, August 01, 2025 – The Anjuman-e-Sufia Noorbakhshia Kargil Ladakh has issued a strong statement condemning the recent remarks made by Sheikh Nazir-ul-Mehdi, President of Jamiat-ul-Ulema Isna Asharia, Kargil.

In a press release dated August 1, 2025, the Anjuman expressed its deep disappointment and concern over a statement made during a mourning ceremony (Majlis-e-Aza), in which Sheikh Nazir Mehdi allegedly referred to the Noorbakhshia school of thought as a “new religion of the modern era.”

The Anjuman described the statement as “deeply regrettable, irresponsible, and far from the truth.” The press release states that such remarks have caused immense pain to the followers of the Noorbakhshia school of thought and pose a threat to the unity and brotherhood of the community.

The statement clarifies that the Noorbakhshia school of thought is not a new religion or innovation but a spiritual and scholarly chain rooted in the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah. It traces its lineage from the Holy Prophet Muhammad, Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib, the Imams of the Ahl al-Bayt, and the mystics of the Sufi path, culminating in the great Sufi master Shah Syed Muhammad Noor Bakhsh.

The Anjuman emphasizes that the Noorbakhshia school is based on pure Islamic teachings, spirituality, love, unity, and piety, with its foundation firmly on the path of the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger.

The press release highlights the significant role played by Noorbakhshi Sufi saints in spreading the light of Islam in Kashmir and the Ladakh region, particularly mentioning Hazrat Mir Syed Ali Hamdani and Hazrat Shah Syed Muhammad Noor Bakhsh. These revered figures are credited with strengthening the roots of Islam in the region through spiritual guidance, ethical teachings, and missionary work.
The Anjuman asserts that even today, Noorbakhshi Muslims sincerely practice Islamic teachings and live with a spirit of tolerance and brotherhood towards all sects.

The organization has called upon Sheikh Nazir-ul-Mahdi to immediately clarify his “irresponsible statement” and offer an apology to the Noorbakhshia community. The Anjuman believes this step is crucial for maintaining an environment of mutual respect, peace, and tolerance, and for preventing any misunderstandings that could lead to disunity.

The statement concludes by reminding that the duty of a religious leader is to unite the community, spread love, and guide society with sincerity and knowledge, rather than creating division by criticizing any particular sect or group.
