Ladakh Astro Week 2026: Experts Highlight Astronomy, Astrophotography, and Humanity’s Place in the Universe on Day 3
Leh, May 22/ VOL News Desk/ The third day of the week-long Ladakh Astro Week 2026 was held at the Tourism Department Compound, Leh, with enthusiastic participation from students, local residents, tourists, and astronomy enthusiasts.
The programme featured talks by Dorje Angchuk, Engineer-in-Charge at the Indian Astronomical Observatory, Hanle, and Niruj Mohan Ramanujam of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics.
Dorje Angchuk delivered a session on Astrophotography in Ladakh, highlighting the region’s unique advantages for observing and photographing celestial objects due to its high altitude, low light pollution, and exceptionally clear night skies.

During the session, he explained various camera settings, menu functions, and essential techniques required for astrophotography. He also shared some of his acclaimed Astro photographs captured in Ladakh and discussed the methods and experiences behind creating those images, inspiring participants to explore the field of astronomy and night-sky photography.
Niruj Mohan Ramanujam delivered a lecture on “Astronomy and the Successive Dethronement of Humans,” explaining how astronomical discoveries have reshaped humanity’s understanding of its place in the universe.
The programme included an interactive session with participants, an astrophotography exhibition, and a stargazing session where visitors observed the Moon, Jupiter, and other celestial objects through telescopes.
