Jamiat ul Ulema Immersed in Mourning and Spiritual Reflection on Ashura

Kargil, July 6, 2025 – The sacred and solemn day of Ashura-e-Hussaini, marking the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (A.S) and his loyal companions in the holy land of Karbala, was observed with profound devotion, reverence, and grief in Kargil under the auspices of Jamiat-ul-Ulama Isna Asharia Kargil (JUIAK), Ladakh.

Over 30 mourning processions (Azadari Juloos) from various villages and mohallas of Kargil district gathered in the town to pay homage to Sayyed-us-Shuhada (A.S.), who stood as the eternal symbol of truth, justice, and resistance against tyranny. Dressed in black, mourners engaged in Noha Khwani, Matam, and Zanjeer Zani, echoing the sorrowful cries of “Ya Hussain!” through the streets.

The processions began entering Main Bazar Kargil around 10:30 AM, gradually making their way to Houza Elmiyah Isna Asharia Kargil by noon. The unified procession then proceeded to the sacred grounds of Inqilab Manzil (Qatilgah-e-Hussaini), a spiritual landmark symbolizing the path of sacrifice, where the commemorations culminated with the recitation of Ziyarat-e-Ashura and a soul-stirring majlis.

The main sermon was delivered by Hojjatul Islam wal Muslimeen Sheikh Nazir ul Mehdi Mohammadi, President JUIAK Ladakh, who reflected upon the eternal message of Karbala. He emphasized that the tragedy of Ashura is not merely a historical event but a divine lesson in standing for righteousness even in the face of unimaginable oppression. He urged the Ummah to embody the values of Imam Hussain (A.S.) — sincerity, courage, and unwavering faith — to combat the evils of injustice and terrorism in the modern world. His address concluded with the narration of Masayib that moved the hearts of thousands and prayers for peace and harmony in the world, particularly in Kargil.

Hojjatul Islam Sheikh Ibrahim Khalili, General Secretary JUIAK Ladakh extended heartfelt gratitude to the District Administration, Health Department, Ladakh Police, Municipal Committee Kargil, volunteers, and Sabeel organizers who served with love and dedication. He especially lauded the sanitation teams and medical staff for ensuring cleanliness and providing care during the day-long commemorations.

The Day of Ashura in Kargil was a manifestation of spiritual solidarity, mourning, and remembrance — a renewal of the covenant with Imam Hussain (A.S.) to uphold the truth and reject falsehood in every era.
