Three LSCS Surgeries Successfully Conducted in a Single Day at CHC Sankoo
February 20/ VOL News Desk/ In a significant achievement for peripheral healthcare services in the district, the Community Health Centre (CHC) Sankoo successfully conducted three elective Lower Segment Caesarean Section (LSCS) surgeries in a single day, marking a major milestone for the institution.
The Department of Gynaecology at CHC Sankoo is now routinely performing elective LSCS procedures as part of its regular maternal and gynaecological healthcare services, significantly strengthening maternal care at the block level.
The surgeries were successfully carried out by Dr. Rubiya Banoo, Consultant Gynaecologist, with anaesthesia support from Dr. Asif Hussain, Consultant Anaesthetist from District Hospital Kargil, and Dr. Amina Khatoon, Anaesthetist, along with the dedicated operation theatre staff. All newborns were declared healthy following delivery.

Specialized guidance on newborn care was also provided to the nursing staff to further enhance neonatal management practices. Timely support from the Blood Storage Unit, supervised by Ahmad Ali, Laboratory Technician, ensured patient safety and smooth surgical outcomes.
Block Medical Officer Dr. Zahida Khatun appreciated the coordinated efforts of the medical team and stated that such achievements reflect the Health Department’s commitment to delivering quality healthcare services at the doorstep, particularly in remote and far-flung areas.
It is noteworthy that since becoming operational on 1st July 2022, the Operation Theatre at CHC Sankoo has played a vital role in improving maternal and child health outcomes in the region.
The availability of routine LSCS services at the block level has greatly reduced the need for pregnant women from remote villages to travel long distances for essential maternal care.
Apart from surgical services, regular Gynaecology OPD services, including antenatal care, postnatal care, family planning, and management of common gynaecological conditions, are being provided at the centre.
These developments underline the steady strengthening of healthcare infrastructure in the region and the continued efforts to ensure accessible and quality healthcare delivery at the grassroots level.
