Presiding over the programme, Sheikh Hussain Lutfi emphasised the power of poetry, stating that “a well-written poetic line can often be more impactful than a full-length lecture.” He also highlighted Ayatollah Khamenei’s engagement with literature and his encouragement of poetic expression.
Quoting Ayatollah Khamenei, he urged poets to incorporate the teachings of the Quran and Ahlulbait in their work. He further encouraged writers to explore broader dimensions of the Karbala narrative—beyond tragedy—such as bravery, sacrifice, truthfulness, and the struggle for justice exemplified by Imam Hussain and his companions.
Dr Mukhtar Zahid Budgami presented a detailed paper examining various phases of Ayatollah Khamenei’s life, including his childhood, education, political journey, literary contributions, and role as Supreme Leader. He supported his research with references from the leader’s sermons and writings, and also highlighted several books authored by him.
