Leh, August 6/ VOL News Desk/ The Leh Apex Body, while addressing an important press conference, expressed concern over the slow progress made by the government on Ladakh’s long-pending four-point demands. The leaders stated that although there has been some movement in the ongoing dialogue with the Centre, no concrete decision has yet been taken on the core issues. They urged the government not to overlook Ladakh’s concerns and to arrive at a sustainable solution at the earliest.

During the press conference, Apex Body Chairman Tsering Dorjay Lakruk, noted environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk, and other leaders highlighted that recent incidents and protests by youth in various parts of the country, including the national capital, have drawn widespread reactions against police action. However, they pointed out that a similar level of response was not witnessed nationwide regarding the police firing incident that occurred during protests in Leh in September 2025. They described this as a “double standard,” adding that the people of Ladakh feel disheartened and distressed by such disparity.

The leaders demanded adequate compensation for the families of those who lost their lives during last year’s protests, complete rehabilitation for the injured, and immediate withdrawal of all cases registered against the youth. They emphasized that these cases are affecting the future prospects of young people, particularly in securing jobs and accessing government services.

The Apex Body further stated that Ladakh is a sensitive border region whose people have always made significant sacrifices for the nation’s security. Therefore, the government must respect the sentiments of the people and adopt a democratic approach. They stressed that governance should be based on trust, dialogue, and compassion rather than fear and force.

The leaders also warned that if no positive progress is made on these demands within the next month, the Apex Body, in consultation with the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA), will announce its future course of action. They expressed hope that the government will take timely steps to address the issues and prevent the need for further public protests.
