Leh Observes Ashura with Solemn Processions, Communal Unity, and Acts of Service
Leh, July 06, 2025 – Shab-e-Ashura and Youm-e-Ashura, marking the 10th day of Muharram, were observed in Leh with profound faith, deep mourning, and communal unity.
The commemorations began on the evening of 5th July and continued through the 6th of July 2025, drawing a large number of devotees from Leh and nearby villages.
The central Ashura procession commenced from the historic Jama Masjid Chuterantak, tracing its traditional route through Main Market, Leh, as thousands of mourners paid homage to Imam Hussain (A.S.) and the martyrs of Karbala through noha khwani, matam, and recitations.

At the Jama Masjid, a joint stage was arranged by the Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat to deliver the message of Karbala, reflecting the spirit of unity among Islamic sects.
Distinguished speakers on the occasion were President of Anjuman Moin-ul-Islam (AMI), President of Ulema Committee, Leh, Imam of Jama Masjid Leh, Vice president Anjuman Imamia Leh Sheikh Nazir Ahmed Sharif among others.
Each speaker eloquently highlighted the values of sacrifice, justice, truth, and resistance against oppression, exemplified by Imam Hussain (A.S.).
The Seerat Committee, Leh, under the leadership of President Sh. Asgar Ali, efficiently coordinated the event. Tabarrukat and refreshments were distributed among participants, with arrangements made for crowd facilitation and support services.
In his closing remarks, Sh. Asgar Ali extended heartfelt gratitude to: District Administration, Leh, Leh Police & Traffic Management teams, Municipal Committee, Leh, Departments of PDD & PHE, and all concerned government and civil departments for their cooperation.
He also appreciated the contribution of several local organizations for their logistical and moral support, including Anjuman Moin-ul-Islam Youth, Imamia Youth Federation, Etihad-ul-Muslimeen, and Al Zahra Women’s Society, Leh.
An estimated 10,000 to 12,000 devotees participated in the day’s majalis and processions, demonstrating a remarkable level of discipline, spiritual connection, and community coordination.
Furthermore a blood donation camp was organised by Alamdar Healthcare Society Leh and over 100 devotees donated blood.
