District Administration Kargil ensures smooth conduct of Moharram processions

Kargil, July 06, 2025 – The District Administration Kargil with the LAHDC Kargil made successful arrangements for Moharram processions in Kargil town and all Sub Divisions with proper security, medical and cleanliness arrangements through out the routes.

In this regard, the CEC Kargil Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhone and Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Rakesh Kumar IAS along with other district officers and duty magistrates made several visits of the Kargil town and conducted several rounds of meetings to ensure a smooth flow of the processions.

On the 9th and 10th of Moharram the Ladakh Police and District Administration Kargil had also arranged sabeels for the mourners. While the Health Department conducted medical camps throughout the routes on various locations.

The PHE Department had made arrangements of water tankers to provide drinking water and spray water on the mourners to assist ease in the hot weather.
The Municipal Committee had deployed staffs for cleanliness and sanitation of the procession route. The Information Department had provided Public Address systems at the congregation sites ensuring easy and smooth deliver of the lectures.

In this regard the CEC Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, had visited the Kargil town on July 05 and conducted an extensive assessment of the preparations for the Ashura processions in Kargil town and passed necessary instructions.

Similarly, on July 02 Deputy Commissioner/CEO, Kargil, Rakesh Kumar (IAS) conducted a detailed inspection of Moharram procession routes across Kargil town to ensure seamless arrangements ahead of the religious observances. He conducted on-spot inspection in terms of arrangements by various departments/agencies.

The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Imteeaz Kacho; Additional Superintendent of Police, Nitin Yadav; Chief Medical Officer, Executive Engineer, PHE; Executive Engineer, Power Development Department; Headquarter Assistant to Deputy Commissioner; Assistant Director, Tourism; Executive Officer, Municipal Committee; Assistant Director, Food & Civil Supplies, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Traffic and other district officers.

DC Rakesh Kumar personally walked the stretch from Fatima Chowk to Inqilab Manzil, passing through key locations such as Islamia School Chowk, Khomeini Chowk and Lal Chowk. He reviewed site-specific arrangements to facilitate the smooth passage of Moharram processions.

On July 04, the DC Kargil, Rakesh Kumar, chaired a meeting to discuss duties and responsibilities of Zonal Magistrates and Sector Magistrates in connection with Moharram processions in Kargil Town. Various aspects of the arrangements of the District Administration were also discussed. Emphasis was laid on ensuring the peaceful and smooth conduct of the religious events.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Imteeaz Kacho, Joint Director (Finance), Iftikhar Hussain, Joint Director (Planning) Abdul Hadi, Assistant Commissioner (Revenue), DySP-DAR, DySP-Traffic, Sector Magistrates, other District Officers and representatives of IKMT and JUIAK.

Apart from other necessary arrangements, the meeting also focused on environmental responsibility during the processions. Deputy Commissioner Kumar urged the reduction of single-use plastics, particularly at Sabeel stalls and along procession routes. Effective communication mechanisms between magistrates and local volunteers were also discussed to streamline coordination during the events.
