Director, Sheep Husbandry Department, UT Ladakh Visits Khaltsi; Attends National Livestock Mission Awareness Camp at Temisgam
Khaltsi, July 7/ VOL News Desk/ An awareness camp under the National Livestock Mission (NLM) was successfully organised at Temisgam on July 7, 2026. The Director, Sheep Husbandry Department, UT Ladakh, Dr. Iftikhar Hussain, attended the programme as the Chief Guest.
The programme commenced with the inauguration of the newly constructed insulated prefabricated building of the LDC Temisgam Centre by the Director, marking a significant addition to the department’s infrastructure in the region.
Dr. Atiya Kausar, Block Officer, Khaltsi, delivered the welcome address and conducted a technical session on the prevention and management of contagious diseases in small ruminants. She highlighted the importance of timely disease control measures to maintain flock health and minimise livestock losses.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Iftikhar Hussain elaborated on the various financial and technical assistance available under the National Livestock Mission for the development and modernisation of the livestock sector. He stressed the importance of promoting livestock rearing in harmony with organic farming practices and underscored the role of animal manure in sustaining soil fertility. He also highlighted the environmental, economic, and health benefits of adopting integrated and sustainable farming systems.
The programme was attended by the former Councillor and former Sarpanch of Tia–Temisgam, the Nambardar of Tia–Temisgam, local livestock rearers, and progressive farmers.
The event concluded with an interactive session during which participants were encouraged to avail themselves of the benefits of the National Livestock Mission and adopt scientific and sustainable livestock management practices to enhance productivity and improve their livelihoods.
Later in the day, the Director paid a courtesy visit to Ms. Kunzes Angmo, Deputy Commissioner, Sham District. During the meeting, they discussed various issues related to the development of the Sheep Husbandry sector in Sham District and explored measures to strengthen livestock development initiatives in the region.
