Kargil, January 14, 2025: A devastating accident occurred at the Shilikchay bypass near the Shilikchay TCP today, resulting in the death of five individuals and leaving two others seriously injured.

The deceased have been identified as Mohd Hassan, son of Mohd Hussain, a resident of Stakpa; Liyaqat Ali, son of A.K. Raza, a resident of Choskore; Mohd Ibrahim, son of Haji Mohd, a resident of Badgam; and two non-local individuals whose identities are yet to be confirmed.

The incident took place around 12:30 PM when a Scorpio vehicle traveling from Kargil to Drass collided with a tipper. The impact of the collision was so severe that both vehicles plunged into a deep gorge.

Emergency responders, including volunteers from Basij Imam (a welfare organization of Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust), Ladakh Police, and Army personnel, swiftly reached the accident site. The injured were promptly transported to the district hospital for urgent medical attention.

Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of LAHDC Kargil, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic accident. In his condolence message, he extended heartfelt sympathies to the grieving families and prayed for eternal peace for the departed souls. He also prayed for strength and resilience for the families to cope with their loss, while wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.
