Syed Ahmed Razvi Submits Memorandum Advocating District Status for Sankoo
Kargil, December 5, 2024: Syed Ahmed Razvi, Councillor of the Sankoo Constituency has formally submitted a memorandum to Shri Kiren Rijiju, Hon’ble Union Minister of Minority Affairs, advocating for the granting of district status to the Sankoo-Suru-Barsoo and TSG regions.
In his memorandum, Razvi expressed gratitude on behalf of the residents for the recent creation of five new districts in Ladakh. He emphasized the urgent need to recognize the Sankoo subdivision as a district, citing its strategic importance, significant population density, and developmental potential. The region encompasses four administrative blocks, nine elected councillors, and two tehsils, making it a vital area for balanced regional growth and equitable service delivery.
Razvi stated that district status for the Sankoo subdivision would enhance governance, address unique challenges, and align with the long-standing aspirations of the region’s residents. “This step would ensure equitable development and focused governance, fulfilling the needs of the people,” he said.

Acknowledging the progressive administrative reforms under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, Razvi expressed optimism that the Union Government would prioritize the demands of the Sankoo region. He reiterated the people’s confidence in their leaders to address the aspirations of Ladakh’s communities.
The memorandum has been well-received among local stakeholders and residents, who view this initiative as a critical step toward realizing the region’s full potential.
