HSS Silmo Celebrates Annual Day and Launches First School Magazine “CHANDOR”


Kargil | September 5, 2024 — Government Higher Secondary School (HSS) Silmo marked a momentous occasion as it celebrated its Annual Day and launched its first-ever school magazine, “Chandor.” The magazine, which captures the voices and creativity of students from this remote region, was warmly received by attendees. The celebration was highlighted by vibrant cultural performances from students across different classes.

The event was graced by the presence of several dignitaries. Principal Khurshid Ahmad expressed his gratitude to the Chief Guest and Guests of Honour for their attendance and took the opportunity to raise important issues concerning the school. He also shared various aspects of Teacher’s life and a value based life.

Sh. SD Namgial, Chief Education Officer (CEO) Kargil, who presided the event as the Chief Guest in absence of EC, Education, LAHDC Kargil, expressed his pleasure in attending the event, affirming his commitment to the needs of remote schools like HSS Silmo. Having visited the school earlier, he assured that the challenges faced by the institution would be addressed in due time. He applauded the launch of the magazine as a significant creative achievement and hope that it would send a good message to other schools. He emphasized the power of dedicated teachers to drive meaningful change in education and expressed as how performances of the students touched his heart.

The event also saw Sh. Kacho Feroz Khan, Councillor of the Silmo Constituency and Former CEC LAHDC Kargil, in attendance as a Guest of Honour. On behalf of Sh. Zakir Hussain, Executive Councillor, Education, LAHDC, Kargil* who was unable to attend as the Chief Guest due to some unavoidable reason, he announced a contribution of ₹5 lakh towards the school. Sh. Feroz Khan congratulated the school on this important milestone and praised its evolution over the past five years in terms of infrastructure, facilities, and activities, noting the visits of two Lieutenant Governors of Ladakh as a testament to the school’s progress.

During his address, he recounted the efforts made during his tenure as the former CEC LAHDC Kargil to uplift the standards of education across the region. He introduced transformative initiatives like Council Model Schools and General line Teacher Transfers, which have contributed to the school’s growth. He also appealed to the CEO Kargil and Council that they would bring a proper transfer policy and system that would support appreciable improvements in the govt schools. He encouraged continued community support for government schools and announced a further of 3 Lacs to the school and  ₹10,000 for the students’ upcoming picnic.

In recognition of their achievements, students excelling in academics and attendance were awarded during the ceremony. The editorial team behind “Chandor,” led by *Sh. Nawang Sharap*, Vice Principal and Editor-in-Chief, was also honored for their dedication in bringing the magazine to life.

The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks, acknowledging the presence and participation of the guests, parents, and the entire school.
