Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor launches Road Safety Awareness Campaign at Auditorium Hall, Kargil

Kargil, August 25, 2024: The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd.) was called on today by several delegations from different areas of Kargil at Raj Niwas, Kargil.

Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Shrikant Suse and Additional Superintendent of Police, Kargil, Mujeeb-ur-Rehman were present during the meetings.

A delegation led by Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr. Mohd. Jaffer Akhoon and Lambardar Parkachik called on Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor and apprised him about the disputed kahcharai land between Parkachik and Rangdum village. 

The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor advised the villagers to resolve the issue with mutual understanding and brotherhood so that both the villages are benefitted.

President of All Ladakh Students Welfare Association Jammu (ALSWAJ), Mohd Hassanain also called on Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor and submitted a memorandum.

He requested to prioritize permanent recruitment over outsourcing, admission issues for paramedical students in securing admission in private colleges across Jammu and Kashmir, delay in disbursement of scholarships etc.

While replying to the request of permanent recruitment, the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor said that the UT Administration is recruiting the vacancies on regular basis.

The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor urged the CEC Kargil to resolve the issues which come under jurisdiction of LAHDC Kargil. The HLG also assured that all the issues as discussed will be looked upon and needful will be done as per the established norms.

The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor was also called on by Hamza Ali, a resident of Dangal, Kargil who discussed the issues including incomplete Gargardo-Dangal link and shortage of water for irrigation purposes.

While giving a patient hearing, the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor directed the Deputy Commissioner Kargil to examine the issues. 

Similarly, a delegation of employees of Fire and Emergency Services Department apprised the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor that there are 31 employees recruited since 2020 but they are still without basic training, which will affect their promotion and increments.

In this regard, the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor directed the concerned officer to resolve their issue at the earliest and as per the established rules.

Later, the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd.) launched “I drive safe”, a Road Safety Awareness Campaign organized by Traffic Police Ladakh at Auditorium Hall, Kargil.

While speaking on the occasion, the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor urged the drivers not to resort to rash driving saying that unchecked speed is the major cause of road accidents. The HLG urged to follow the traffic rules and prioritize safety. 

The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor also expressed grief over the recent tragic road accident at Durbuk, Leh in which 7 people died and 21 were injured and prayed for the departed souls.

On the occasion, Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargi, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon also urged all to follow the traffic rules and drive with care and caution. The CEC also expressed sorrow over the Durbuk, Leh tragedy and expressed sympathies with the grieved families.

At the event, the National Anthem was played and a 2-minute silence was also observed on the recent tragic accident at Durbuk, Leh.

The other officials who were present at the event included Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Shrikant Suse; SSP Kargil, Shree Ram R; Joint Director Information, Ladakh, Imteeaz Kacho; SSP Traffic Ladakh, Ishtiyaq A Kacho; CMO Kargil, Dr Liyaqat Ali; District Officers; Presidents of Transport Unions, students, other stakeholders and large gathering of people was present.
