Indian Army Launches Special Outreach Drive Ahead of 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas, Honors Fallen Hero’s Family in Remote Zanskar Village
Kargil, June 2025 — In the run-up to the 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas, the Indian Army has launched a special outreach drive under the banner of the Forever in Operational Division to honor the bravehearts of the Kargil War and connect with their families.
As part of this heartfelt initiative, Havildar Haider Ali of the 508 Army Service Corps Battalion undertook a challenging journey to visit the family of the late Havildar Chhering Tashi of the elite LADAKH SCOUTS. Covering a grueling three-day route through mountainous terrain and treacherous roads, Havildar Ali reached the remote village of Stongde in Zanskar District, ahead of Padum, to meet the Next of Kin, Smt. Tsering Chhuskit.
The visit was marked by deep emotion and solemn respect. Havildar Haider Ali personally interacted with Smt. Tsering Chhuskit and her family, expressing the Indian Army’s continued gratitude and solidarity with the kin of its fallen heroes. The family expressed heartfelt appreciation for the Indian Army’s efforts in reaching out to such a distant and challenging location.

It aimed to understand the current challenges and hardships faced by the family of Havildar Chhering Tashi and explore ways to provide ongoing support and assistance. In recognition of Havildar Tashi’s supreme sacrifice, the family was presented with a memento and a letter of appreciation from the General Officer Commanding, Forever in Operational Division.
The Indian Army’s commitment to honoring its martyrs and caring for their families remains unwavering. This initiative reflects the true spirit of service, sacrifice, and solidarity that defines the Indian Army — especially as the nation prepares to pay tribute to the brave hearts on the solemn occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas.
