Empowering Ladakh’s Connectivity: Advisor Kotwal Chairs UT level Committee Meeting
PRI to be empowered in O&M of PMGSY roads
Leh, August 02: Ladakh’s drive towards all-weather road connectivity received a significant boost as the UT Level Standing Committee, chaired by Advisor Ladakh, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, recommended projects worth Rs 2744.80 Cr under the Central Road & Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) and Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY-III Phase II).
In the meeting, a total of 53 new/upgradation road projects and 54 bridge projects, spanning 900 km, were proposed under CRIF, with an estimated cost of Rs. 2140 crore for roads and Rs. 605.1 crore for bridges.

Additionally, the committee reviewed 11 road upgradation projects covering 82 km under PMGSY-III Phase II. The projects aim to enhance road connectivity, shorten distances between villages, and connect unconnected habitations to foster sustainable development in rural areas.
Commissioner/Secretary, PWD, Ajeet Kumar Sahu, presented the progress of the ongoing CRIF and PMGSY projects. Under CRIF, 18 projects were completed out of the 22 sanctioned for 2019-20, and works for 17 projects sanctioned during the 2022-23 financial year are in progress. Similarly, under PMGSY-I & II, the department successfully completed 1029.70 km of roads, with a remaining balance of 57.10 km is expected to be completed by September 2023.
Advisor Kotwal emphasized the need for timely project completion to meet set timelines, ensuring enhanced connectivity and development for the people of Ladakh.
