GDC Kargil, EJM College Leh celebrates World AIDS Day
Kargil, Dec 01, 2022: Red Ribbon Club and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Unit GDC Kargil and National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Eliezer Joldan Memorial College, Leh in collaboration with J&K AIDS Control Society (JKACS), Home Department Red Ribbon Club observed World AIDS Day in their respective colleges.
Red Ribbon Club and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Unit GDC Kargil organized an awareness program on ‘World AIDS Day’ themed ‘Ending Inequality and Eliminating AIDS’ which was attended by faculty members and students of the college.
Dr. Javed Mohammad Iqbal, Senior Assistant Professor presented a detailed power presentation on the current situation of HIV and AIDS around the globe, especially in India.

He threw light on steps being taken to combat the deadly disease by international organizations in general and the Government of India in particular.
On the occasion, Dr. Azra Khatun, Assistant Professor English, presented a talk on women, girls and HIV/AIDS adding that women and girls are vulnerable to get infected.
Shujat Ali Mir, Coordinator Red Ribbon Club, presented vote of thanks while Gulzar Hussain, Coordinator Unnat Bharat Abhiyan conducted program proceedings.
In Leh, the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Eliezer Joldan Memorial College, Leh in collaboration with J&K AIDS Control Society (JKACS), Home Department Red Ribbon Club observed World AIDS Day by organising an Open-air Painting, Speech Competitions.
The painting and speech competition was based on the theme of World AIDS Day 2022: ‘Equalize: Achieving Equality to End HIV’.
Principal EJM College Leh, Dr Sameena Iqbal, was the chief guest of the occasion.
Around 50 NSS volunteers participated in the painting competition and 20 NSS volunteers participated in the speech competition.
To encourage the participating students’ cash prizes and certificates were awarded to the winners by Principal Dr Sameena Iqbal.
In the painting competition, Stanzin Odzer (2nd Semester) secured the first position, Tsewang Chuskit (2nd Semester) secured the second position and Rigzin Chorol (2nd Semester) secured the third position.
In the speech competition, Angmo Sherpa (4th Semester) secured the first position, Tsering Lazes (2nd Semester) secured the second position and Tsewang Namgyal (6th Semester) bagged the third position.
The members of the NSS Committee, including Asstt Prof/ Convenor Padma Wangchok; Asstt Prof Sonam Angmo; Asstt Prof Jigmet Yangdol, Asstt Prof Yangchan Dolma, Asstt Professor Tsering Chorol, organised the event.
World AIDS Day, designated on 1 December every year since 1988, is an international day dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection and mourning those who have died of the disease.
