Leh/ Dec 22: In order to organize the Khelo India Ladakh Winter Games and make it a great success, the Administrative Secretary Youth Services and Sports, UT Ladakh Ravinder Kumar chaired a meeting of District Youth Services and Sports Officers Leh/Kargil, Heads of various Sports Associations of UT Ladakh and other Stakeholders.

Secy Ravinder noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the Khelo India Games is not just an event, it is a movement. And on the visit of the Union Sports Minister to UT Ladakh in September this year had desired for the conduct of Khelo India Winter Games. While complying with the directions, we submitted a Tentative Schedule for conduct of Khelo India Ladakh Winter Games, Ice Hockey/Archery 2020-21.

It is pertinent to mentioned here that the same has been approved by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Gol. The Khelo India Winter Games 2021 will be conducted at Block, District and UT level at a total approved cost of Rs. 68.85 lakhs. All the issues regarding organization of the said event, while adhering to the Statutory Guidelines issued by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, UT Ladakh for the containment of the spread of prevailing COVID-19 Pandemic was discussed in detail.

Adm Secy Ravinder reiterated that Sports is the heart and soul of the youth, and the youth of UT Ladakh has great potential. So, in order to inculcate the spirit of sportsmanship and pursue Sports as a career, these events are going to be very beneficial for the youth. After the formation of UT Ladakh, it is a high watermark in the history of Sports of UT, Ladakh.

The Khelo India Ice Hockey tournament will be conducted at the Block and District Level in the first week of January 2021 and the UT level competition will be conducted in the last week of January 2021 whereas Khelo India Archery Competition will be conducted in the last week of February, 2021.

Further, the Secretary directed all the District Officers and Heads of the Sports Associations to coordinate with each other and sensitize the Youth and their parents for the benefit of Sports to make this event a historical one.
