MP Conducts Tour of Chuli Skambo Constituency; Assures Priority-Based Development
Kargil, October 28/ VOL News Desk/ The Hon’ble Member of Parliament (MP), accompanied by government officials, concluded an extensive one-day tour of the Chuli Skambo Constituency to review ongoing developmental projects and directly address public grievances across multiple villages.
The MP underscored that unity and cooperation are fundamental to progress, stating, “development depends on the public; and disputes delay progress.” He highlighted the immense potential of the region in horticulture, tourism, and rural entrepreneurship, assuring that all issues raised during the tour would be addressed on a priority basis through proper channels. He specifically stressed the need to promote Saspol apples and apricot products for international export and encouraged the expansion of local homestay facilities to boost tourism.

Karkichoo Village: Residents identified irrigation as their main concern, essential for apricot cultivation. They requested the construction of a new irrigation canal or a solar lift irrigation system for continuous water supply, alongside demands for road macadamization with proper drainage and the development of a volleyball ground for the youth. Issues under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) were also flagged.
Chandigund: Key demands included the construction of irrigation canals, repair of existing lift irrigation systems, urgent road macadamization (especially due to winter damage), construction of an Eidgah, establishment of a Community Health Centre (CHC) or Trauma Centre, a veterinary centre, and the restoration of pending JJM works. Additionally, they sought renovation of the Higher Secondary School hostel and inclusion of 100 canals under orchard land development.
Hardass (Apricot Model Village): Residents appealed for separate funding due to their model village status. Issues raised included compensation for apricot tree damage, road improvements, landslide protection walls, and stronger telecom connectivity. The women’s group raised concerns regarding delayed MGNREGA payments.
Budgam & Latoo: The community in Budgam prioritized the establishment of a Higher Secondary School with hostel facilities and a footbridge. In Latoo, the key issue was the repair of dysfunctional hand pumps.
Kharul Village: The public requested fencing and playground development at the local school and the resolution of persistent issues with the lift irrigation system.
The MP assured residents that immediate attention would be given to key issues such as irrigation and water supply measures, recognizing their direct impact on horticultural productivity and economic growth. He also committed to resolving the delayed MGNREGA payments for the Hardass women’s group immediately in coordination with the Block Development Officer.
The tour concluded with the MP reaffirming his commitment to taking up all raised concerns at the earliest with the Hill Council to ensure holistic and sustainable development across the constituency.
