CEC chairs meeting regarding traffic management of Kargil Town
KARGIL, APRIL 01, 2021: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan convened a meeting regarding the urban planning for proper traffic management in Kargil town at Council Secretariat here today.
Executive Councillor (EC) for Social Welfare Aga Syed Hassan Arman Mosavi, Executive Councillor (EC) for Tourism Phunsog Tashi, Executive Councillor (EC) for Works Mubarak Shah Nagvi, Executive Councillor (EC) for Health Muhammad Ali Chandan, Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve, SP Kargil Anayat Ali Choudhary, ASP Iftikhar Talib Choudhary, Deputy SP Traffic Ladakh Rigzin Sandup, District Traffic Inspector Nissar Ali, SHO Manzoor Ahmad, Consultant Ladakh Police Aditya Srivastava besides other concerned officers were present in the meeting.
During the course of the meeting thorough discussions and deliberations were held which were aimed to mitigate the traffic regulation needs of Kargil town.

The meeting was informed that on the direction of ADGP Ladakh, a survey of Kargil town has been done to understand the necessary needs and measures for formulation of policies for traffic management which will be forwarded to the UT Administration Ladakh in due course of time.
CEC Feroz Ahmad Khan while expressing satisfaction over the survey of Kargil town said that it will be beneficial in making Kargil a beautiful and sustainable city. He added that state land near Army Goodwill School Harka Bahadur is apt for the establishment of terminal for heavy vehicles, adding that construction of an external road is being explored to deal with the traffic congestion from the middle of Hussaini Park.
Earlier Consultant to Ladakh Police and Road Safety Engineer Aditya Srivastava gave a detailed presentation on traffic management system in Kargil town. He briefed that after months of recce and survey through drones and satellite imagery, a plan has been drafted with regard to devise strategies to deal with many issues of Kargil town in which mobility corridors, major junctions, shifting of buses and trucks to a suitable ISBT out of town, parking places, peripheral roads and pedestrian paths and other major issues.
The meeting was informed that in order to address various issues of traffic management, construction of peripheral roads and footbridges besides extra bridges across Suru River for proper flow of traffic, pedestrian path stretch of 1.5 kilometers in town, construction of multi-storey parking complexes and ban on encroachments among other measures will be taken.
It was also informed during the meeting that possibility of multi-storey parking at Hussaini Park, motorable bridge or footbridge near Shujah Gali to Iqbal Hydel Project, construction of multi-storey parking at New Bus Stand and Qatlgah needs to be addressed on priority to decongest the town and to ensure proper traffic mobility.
Among other issues related to Urban Development which came for discussion during the meeting, it was decided that Apo Bazar needs to be presented as a model pedestrian site in the town on account of its rich history and cultural legacy besides its historical connect with the famed silk route which will pave way for tourism promotion in Kargil town.
The meeting further decided that paid parking spaces should be established to reduce the traffic flow and congestion in the town besides strict policies should also be put in place to disallow encroachment on highways.
