University of Ladakh, Kargil Campus Hosts Three-Day Inter-College Sports Meet cum Cultural Festival

Kargil, May 03, 2025: The University of Ladakh, Kargil Campus launched a grand three-day Inter-College Sports Meet cum Cultural Festival, aimed at promoting sportsmanship, cultural heritage, and academic exchange among students from across the region. The event saw enthusiastic participation from teaching and non-teaching staff, students, and dignitaries from various colleges.

The event was officially inaugurated in the presence of Prof. Dr. Saket Kushwaha, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ladakh, who attended as the Chief Guest. Also gracing the occasion were Shri Nawang Tundup, Registrar of the University of Ladakh, as the Guest of Honour, Mohd Sajjad Khan, Councillor of Saliskote as the Special Guest, and Prof. Dr. Faizan Ahmad, Head of the School of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Kargil Campus. Faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students actively participated in the event, which began on May 3 and will conclude on May 5.

In his welcome address, Dr. Mehmoob Ali, In-charge Administration, extended a warm welcome to all participating teams and guests. He emphasized the University’s commitment to providing a fair, disciplined, and enjoyable platform for students to showcase their athletic and cultural talents.

In his address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Saket Kushwaha expressed his immense satisfaction with the launch of the University’s first-ever inter-college sports competition. He said, “It is a proud moment for the University of Ladakh to initiate this platform with events like Handball and Archery. In the near future, we also aim to revive and promote traditional Ladakhi sports such as Horse Polo.

“Additionally, the University has introduced 13 new academic courses, which will provide students in Kargil with advanced educational opportunities. I had made a commitment to bring significant improvements within 100 days of joining, and I am proud to announce that nearly 85% of that work has already been completed. The University is committed to further enhancing the academic and infrastructural landscape of Ladakh.”

Special Guest Mohd Sajjad Khan commended the University leadership for its efforts in developing the infrastructure and academic offerings at the Kargil campus. He appreciated the Vice Chancellor’s vision and expressed gratitude to all the participating teams for their involvement in the event.

The event saw participation from nine teams, including: University of Ladakh (Kargil & Leh Campuses), Government Degree College, Kargil, Eliezer Joldan Memorial College, Leh, Degree College Khalse, Degree College Nubra, Degree College Drass, Degree College Sankoo and Degree College Zanskar.
