CEC Leh chairs meeting to discuss transport-related matters
Leh,April 19: The Chairman LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson, convened a meeting at the Council Secretariat in the presence of Deputy Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Tsering Angchuk and Bhupesh Chaudhary, Administrative Secretary, SIDCO, UT Ladakh and GM SIDCO/ADDC Sonam Norboo to discuss various transport-related matters, particularly those concerning SIDCO, local unions, and the overall management of public transport services.
The meeting focused on addressing issues related to the permit issuance system, improving the functioning of local and SIDCO buses, and easing traffic congestion in key areas of the town.
Also present in the meeting were the Director, Industries and Regional Transport Officer, Leh; Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Leh; President, All Ladakh Transport Association and Presidents of Different Transport Association and Executive Members.

One of the key discussions focused on introducing a lottery system for issuing permits to Mazda vehicles, aimed at ensuring transparency in the process. It was also decided that all SIDCO and Mazda Union buses would operate from the Leh New Bus Stand to help decongest the Leh Main Gate area, where frequent halts by vehicles have been causing traffic issues.
The decision is expected to improve the overall traffic flow in the town. Parking challenges at Bombgarh, where a large number of trucks are currently stationed, were also discussed.
The need to regulate the issuance of new permits was highlighted, with suggestions to introduce a structured framework for better management. The meeting also reviewed the status of the Vehicle Scrapping Policy and the Electric Vehicle Policy. The Secretary, Transport Department assured that relevant orders would be issued soon.
A proposal to install GPS tracking systems in all commercial vehicles was also supported. The department informed that an agency is being empanelled for the task, and implementation will begin shortly.
The meeting concluded with the Hon’ble Chairman emphasising the importance of coordinated efforts and timely action to ensure better transport services and smooth traffic management in the region.
