MHA Calls High-Powered Committee Meeting to Discuss Ladakh’s Key Demands

New Delhi, April 17, 2025 – The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India, has convened a meeting of the High-Powered Committee (HPC) for the Union Territory of Ladakh to address critical issues concerning the region. The talks are scheduled for May 20, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the MHA office in New Delhi.

The meeting is expected to deliberate on the four-point agenda presented by Ladakhi leaders in previous discussions with the MHA. The key demands include:

  1. Statehood for Ladakh
  2. Inclusion of Ladakh in the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution
  3. Establishment of a Public Service Commission for Ladakh to expedite recruitment for Gazetted posts
  4. Separate Lok Sabha seats for Leh and Kargil districts

The movement for Sixth Schedule safeguards and statehood is being led by the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) and Leh Apex Body (LAB). Ahead of the MHA meeting, these groups have organized a preparatory meeting in Kargil today to consolidate their stance.

All members of the HPC have been requested to attend the Delhi meeting, which could mark a significant step toward addressing Ladakh’s long-standing demands.
