Tourist Missing After Falling Through Frozen River Ice in Ladakh

Vol Desk, December 27, 2024: A 25-year-old tourist from Bangalore, Jeenesh Nahar, has been missing since December 25 after falling through a thin sheet of ice near Sangam Point in Leh-Ladakh.

The incident occurred around 3 PM while Nahar was sitting on the ice, which unexpectedly gave way beneath him, plunging him into the freezing waters below.

Search and rescue operations, involving the Indian Army, local police, and volunteers from Chuchot, have been ongoing for the past three days. However, there has been no sign of the missing tourist so far.

Authorities have urged tourists visiting the region to exercise caution near frozen water bodies, emphasizing the dangers of walking or sitting on unstable ice formations.

Rescue teams continue to brave harsh winter conditions in hopes of locating Jeenesh Nahar.
