Kargil Police Take Action Against Rumor-Mongering on Social Media
Kargil, December 13: The Kargil Police has registered an FIR No. 64/2024 against an individual for spreading false information about an alleged sexual assault involving a minor, informed an official from Kargil Police. This misinformation caused panic among the public and damaged the reputation of several people.
The police have criticized attempts to involve religious organizations in spreading such rumors and reminded the public that revealing the identity of a minor victim under the POCSO Act is a punishable offense. Those found guilty can face imprisonment of six months to one year, along with a fine.
The police assured that all cases of sexual abuse and assault are handled with professionalism and care. Their procedure includes home visits, counseling, and filing FIRs after proper investigation.

Additionally, the police clarified that rumors, such as claims of “school girls being helpless,” are false and misleading. They urged people to refrain from sharing such unverified information.
Strict action will be taken against anyone spreading false rumors or misinformation on social media. The Kargil Police remain committed to ensuring justice and maintaining peace in the district.
