Sankoo Campus, GDC Kargil celebrates UT Foundation Day, National Unity Day
Kargil, Nov 01, 2024: Department of Sociology and Political Science Government Degree College (GDC) Kargil, Sankoo Campus under the supervision of Nodal Officer Dr Saleem Ahmed on Thursday celebrated Union Territory Foundation Day, commemorating Ladakh’s status as a Union Territory since 2019, and National Unity Day, honouring the legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
The theme of the programe was “A Tribute to Progress, Unity, and Cultural Heritage of Ladakh”. The event was attended by college staff from various departments and administrative staff to celebrate the region’s growth, distinct cultural heritage, and dedication to unity and national integrity.
The program commenced with an introductory talk by Dr. Imtiaz Ali Kharpa, Assistant Professor of Sociology. He paid rich tributes to Sardar Patel’s contributions, emphasizing the importance of unity in diversity, especially in a culturally rich region like Ladakh.

Zahra Batool, a student of 1st Semester moderate the programme, Mohd Ali 3rd Semester student, Husniya Banoo 1st Semester and Farida Batool of 5th Semester presented kicked speeches commemorating Ladakh’s journey as a Union Territory and honouring the legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
They highlighted Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s “Iron Man” enduring vision for a united India, emphasizing the importance of working together to achieve common goals. Throughout the event, participants showed excitement and curiosity, and there was active interaction and engagement.
The speech of the students was followed by a speech by Ahmed Ali, Assistant Professor of Zoology, underlining Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s values and the significance of celebrating the Nation Unity Day. He praised the students’ active engagement, stating their enthusiasm and active participation showing youth dedication toward Ladakh’s growth and unity.
The program concluded with vote of thanks by Dr Gulzar Hussain Assistant Professor of Political Science, stating the landmarks across Ladakh were illuminated, symbolizing hope, resilience, and the spirit of Ladakhi culture intertwined with the values of unity and progress.
