LG BD Mishra and First Lady Smt Neelam Mishra visit Nubra Sub-Division

Leh, September 25, 2024: The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor Brigadier [Dr] BD Mishra [Retd] along with first Lady Smt Neelam Mishra arrived in Nubra Valley to a warm welcome at Thoise Airport, where he was received by Deputy CEC Tsering Angchok, Deputy Commissioner Leh Shri Santosh Sukhadave (IAS) , SSP Leh Smt. Shruti Arora (IPS), Executive Councillor LAHDC-Leh Shri Gulam Mehdi, and Councillors from Hundar and Panamik.

Upon reaching the 54 RCC Headquarter, the Hon’ble Lt. Governor was honored with a guard of honor by the 2nd Ladakh Scout team. His visit culminated in a reception at the Mini Stadium in Diskit, attended by community representatives, religious leaders, villagers and students of the Nubra Sub-Division.

Shruti Arora (IPS), Executive Councillor LAHDC-Leh Shri Gulam Mehdi, Councillor Hundar Shri. kunzang Lotus, Councillor Panamik Shri Tsering Sandup, Councillor Sumoor Shri Rigzen Lundup, Nambardars of the Nubra Sub-Division, community representatives and other officials were present during the occasion.

The event commenced with a welcome address by Tsering Norboo, President of the Ladakh Buddhist Association’s Nubra Wing, who expressed gratitude to the HLG and First Lady Smt. Neelam Mishra for their presence, highlighting the significance of the recent conferment of District Status to the Nubra Sub-Division.

Deputy CEC, LAHDC-Leh, Shri. Tsering Angchok and Executive Councillor, LAHDC-Leh, Shri. Gulam Mehdi shared their appreciation for the new district status, acknowledging the contributions of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, Hon’ble Lt Governor Brig [Dr] BD Mishra and other officials, including Hon’ble CEC Leh Advocate Tashi Gyaltson and ex-Member of Parliament Shri Jamyang Tsering Namgyal.

In his address, the Hon’ble Lt. Governor congratulated the people of Nubra on this pivotal achievement, noting that the proposal for five new districts in Ladakh was a strategic decision to enhance administrative efficiency in remote areas. The HLG announced the formation of a committee for boundary demarcation, with a report expected within 90 days.

The HLG emphasized the importance of tourism and infrastructure development in the region, assuring that all files related to these initiatives are actively progressing. The HLG reiterated his commitment to a corruption-free, delay-free Ladakh, focusing on advancements in health, education, and law enforcement.

Further, the HLG revealed the approval of approximately ₹400 crore project aimed at ensuring water supply for Leh and Kargil towns for the next 30 years, alongside the establishment of Water Treatment Plants in Leh and Kargil to provide clean drinking water.

The HLG announced the completion of recruitment rules for gazetted posts by October 3rd, which will be submitted to the UPSC, thereby creating more employment opportunities in the region. The HLG also spoke on the implementation of the ‘Lakpati DiDi Scheme’, a vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

Finally, the HLG committed to address the wildlife area demarcation issue once proposals are submitted by the Hill Councils of Leh, which despite repeated requests has not been submitted so far.
