LAHDC, Leh distributes land to boost socio-economic conditions of local communities
Leh, Aug 20: In a landmark event at Spituk today, the Chairman of LAHDC, Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson, distributed land from the Igoo-Phey Command Area to the residents of Spituk, Palam, and Pharka villages. The land was allocated through a lottery system aimed at boosting the socio-economic conditions of the local communities and fostering sustainable development.
Speaking on the occasion, H’CEC Gyalson congratulated the villagers of Spituk, Palam, and Pharka on receiving the command area land. He acknowledged the perseverance of the Gobas, Councillor, revenue officers/ officials, villagers and other concerned members whose tireless efforts made the successful land allocation possible. He urged the villagers to recognize the long-term objectives behind granting them the command area land and to maximize its potential for their community’s growth and prosperity.
Further CEC Gyalson said that the Council is exploring possibilities to lift Indus water and pump into the Igoo-Phey Canal to mitigate the shortage of water.

Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve, also extended his congratulations to the residents of Spituk Village, acknowledging the long-awaited fulfilment of the Command Area land allotment. DC Santosh, provided insight into the historical significance of the J&K Command Area Act, noting its purpose of converting barren land into productive agricultural land. He underlined that the utilization of this land for sustainable agriculture would benefit not only the local communities but the entire Union Territory of Ladakh.
Nambardar Spituk, Lobzang Larjay, described the day as a monumental moment for the three villages. “This land has been a dream of every villager, and today, that dream has finally been realized,” he said. He also highlighted the importance of the Igoo-Phey Act, which mandates that villagers make the allotted land green, ensuring its cultivation and preservation for future generations.
The programme was attended by Deputy Commissioner/CEO, Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve; ACR Shabir Hussain; Councillor, Phyang Constituency, Tundup Nurbu; Tehsildar, Leh, Dorjay Gyalson; Nambardar, Spituk, Lobzang Larjay; Girdawars; Patwaris , members and villagers of Spituk, Palam and Pharka.
