Advisor Dr Pawan Kotwal convenes meeting reviews functioning of Handloom & Handicraft Dept.
Leh, May 01: The Advisor to the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, UT Ladakh, Dr. Pawan Kotwal chaired a meeting to review the functioning of the Handloom and Handicraft wings of Industries & Commerce Department UT Ladakh at VC Hall, Secretariat Leh.
At the outset of the meeting, a comprehensive presentation was given by the Handloom and Handicrafts wings of the Industries & Commerce Department on the Handicraft Department’s achievements until 2023-24.
The meeting was focused on replicating the good practices in the field into the Government sector and framing schemes/initiatives to consider the unique needs and challenges of the Handloom and Handicraft departments, strengthening infrastructure, skill development and training, marketing and promotion, and preservation of cultural heritage. The director of the Industries and Commerce Department UT Ladakh expressed confidence on to bring the best and highest quality of Handloom products and goods at the earliest.

The advisor Dr Pawan Kotwal highlighted the importance of hand-made products and ethnic Ladakhi designs. He directed the concerned officials to introduce new schemes/initiatives to promote knitting, weaving, pottery, etc, and also to produce more fine Hand-made products and put standardization on designing the products.
The meeting was attended by the Principal Secretary of the Industries & Commerce Department, UT Ladakh; Superintendent Handloom, Leh; Assistant Director Handicrafts, Leh; OSD to the Director; District Training Coordinator of Industries & Commerce, Leh while Director of Industries & Commerce, UT Ladakh; Superintendent Handloom, Kargil; and Assistant Director Handicrafts, Kargil joined the meeting virtually.
