Awareness Programme on ‘Drugs and Substance Abuse’ held at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Leh
Leh, May 2: The Department of Information and Public Relations in collaboration with the Education Department, Health Department and Ladakh Police, Leh today organised an awareness programme on ‘Drugs and Substance Abuse’ at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Leh.
The programme is in continuation with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, GoI and Administration of Union Territory of Ladakh’s concerted effort to address the pressing issue of drug menace. This awareness campaign on drug and substance abuse has been taking place at different schools and colleges in Leh.
Two short films titled “Echoes of Redemption” and “Trapped” based on the drug and substance abuse were screened during the awareness programme providing comparative narratives of the realities of addiction, and its ill effect on individuals, families and societies.

Assistant Information Officer, DIPR Leh Stanzin Palmo, Clinical Psychologist SNM Hospital Leh Jigmet Wangmo, Assistant Exhibition & Culture Officer DIPR Leh Stanzin Wangmo, Culture Assistant DIPR Leh Sonam Youton, students, staff and faculty members of KV school participated in this programme.
Clinical psychologist, Jigmet Wangmo, educated students on drugs and substance abuse and how it badly affects an individual both physically and mentally. Highlighting the various tactics employed by drug peddlers to entice individuals into the dark world of substance abuse, Ms Jigmet urged students to stay away from them in the first place to avoid its addiction.
AE&CO, Stanzin Wangmo also shared her views and underlined the importance of understanding to choose between right and wrong in student’s lives and advised them to learn nuances of life that would help them in tackling problems in life.
Later, students asked their questions to the Psychologist Jigmet related to drugs as well as related to mental health.
