KARGIL FEBRUARY 28, 2021: In order to assess the possibilities for opening of Srinagar-Kargil-Leh National Highway NH-1D post fresh snowfall situation, which was scheduled to be flagged off by the Lieutenant Governor Ladakh R K Mathur for traffic movement on Sunday, Deputy Commissioner/District Magistrate and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve along with the Senior Superintendent of Police Kargil Anayat Ali Choudhary today visited the highway up to Pandrass.

SP Traffic Ladakh Muhammad Rafi Giri and Chief Engineer (CE), Project Vijayak Brigadier Ashish Gambhir, SDM Drass Asgar Ali besides other concerned officers accompanied the DC during the tour.

During the course of the tour, the DC along with the SSP, CE Vijayak and other concerned officers took stock of snow avalanche clearance works at Jasgond and Pandrass besides snow clearance works at other locations on the highway.

At Pandrass, the DC while appreciating the Vijayak authorities for their efforts in the snow clearance works, directed them to complete the remaining works with continued enthusiasm, so that the NH-ID is thrown open for vehicular traffic at the earliest possible.

The DC was informed that both men and machinery have been mobilized to carry out the snow clearance operations on the road stretch from Pandrass to Zero Point adding that snow avalanches at some locations is hampering the clearance works.

On the way back, the DC also met various public delegations at Dak Bungalow Drass and listened to their grievances, issues and developmental needs. He also took stock of the situation arisen due to fresh snowfall and enquired about the availability of essentials to the people in the area.

The DC was informed that there is adequate stock of essentials including rice, atta, kerosene oil, LPG and besides other essential commodities are available in Drass area.

Among the public delegations which met the DC at Drass included a deputation of the Himalayan Sports and Cultural Development Organization Drass which requested for grant of permission and financial assistance for conduct of a winter sports and cultural festival in Drass.

The DC assured the delegation for suitable follow up in the matter.
