Ladakh MP Expresses Unawareness Regarding Draft Submitted to MHA
VoL Desk, Feb. 14: Ladakh’s Member of Parliament, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, expressed his lack of awareness regarding the draft submitted by the Kargil Democratic Alliance and Apex Body Leh to the Ministry of Home Affairs on January 16, 2024. He questioned the apparent secrecy surrounding the draft and stated that it is impossible for him to make decisions during the February 19 meeting in New Delhi without being informed about its contents.
During an interview with a media channel, MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal referenced the press conference held by the District Congress Committee, Leh, and inquired whether they had received a copy of the 27-page draft submitted by the Apex Body Leh and Kargil Democratic Alliance.
Namgyal raised concerns about the four-point agenda, particularly regarding the inclusion of statehood, and questioned the potential structure and function of the proposed state, including whether it would encompass Lahol Spiti and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Despite extensive efforts to locate a copy of the draft, Namgyal stated he was unsuccessful. He emphasized his role as a member of the High Powered Committee and reiterated his inability to make informed decisions without knowledge of the draft’s contents.
He maintained that the local leaders and associations lack awareness about the draft which include Namberdars, Sarpanchs, and the Gonpa Association, suggesting potential harm in the draft to the general public.
Namgyal affirmed his commitment to representing the interests of Ladakh’s people and pledged not to compromise the region’s interests, nor allow others to do so.
