New Delhi, Feb 13: The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced on Tuesday that twenty-three candidates have attained a perfect 100 score in the engineering entrance exam JEE-Main, with the majority hailing from Telangana.

Over 11.70 lakh candidates appeared for the first edition of this pivotal exam. Among the achievers, seven hail from Telangana, two from Haryana, three each from Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra, with two from Delhi, and one each from Gujarat, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.

Clarifying the scoring system, NTA officials emphasized that the NTA score is not a direct representation of percentage marks but rather normalized scores.

“NTA scores are normalized across multi-session papers and are based on the relative performance of all examinees in one session. The marks obtained are converted into a scale ranging from 100 to 0 for each session of examinees,” explained a senior official.

The exam was conducted in Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. The exam was also conducted internationally in Manama, Doha, Dubai, Kathmandu, Muscat, Riyadh, Sharjah, Singapore, Kuwait City, Kuala Lumpur, Lagos/Abuja, Colombo, Jakarta, Moscow, Ottawa, Port Louis, Bangkok, and Washington D.C.

Additionally, it was conducted for the first time in Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong, and Oslo.

While the first edition of the exam took place from January to February, the second edition is scheduled for April. Based on the results of JEE-Mains Paper 1 and Paper 2, candidates will be shortlisted to appear for the JEE-Advanced exam, the gateway to admission into the 23 premier Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
