The CEC was apprised by Executive Engineer R&B that the civil works for the ice hockey rink at Airport Road are 90 percent complete. However, the mechanical aspects, including the chilling portion, are pending administrative approval from higher authorities. CEC Dr Jaffer assured to take up the issue with the concerned authorities at the earliest. The CEC was updated on the ongoing construction progress of the Ice Hockey Rink in Biamathang. It was conveyed that the construction is underway, but there has been a delay due to issues related to land acquisition from the Forest Department.
He also informed the CEC that hosting the CEC Cup temporarily on the ground is not feasible due to the presence of heavy iron rods on the ground.
In response to the concerns raised, CEC Dr Jaffer suggested organizing this year’s CEC Cup in adjacent areas such as Drass, Chiktan, or Kapila.
He also recommended that giving preference to Kargil town for hosting the CEC Cup would be advantageous, ensuring easy accessibility for all participating teams.
CEC Kargil directed ADC Kargil to resolve the issue of registration of the association at the earliest. Dr Jaffer appreciated all the players for their relentless contribution of the Ice Hockey players for popularizing the sports in Kargil.
He also emphasized that players from Kargil have great potential in sports such as Taekwondo, ice hockey, and other traditional sports. He highlighted the need for modern facilities and proper infrastructure to enhance their skills.
CEC Dr Jaffer also committed to allocating a dedicated fund in the next year’s budget to support sports-related development activities in the district. CEC Kargil also announced that essential sports equipment will soon be provided to the ice hockey players in the district.
