Kargil, 10 February, 2021: A weekly online talk organised by University of Ladakh (UoL) in collaboration with International Association for Ladakh Studies (IALS) under the supervision of Dr. Amjad Ali, DSW, UoL and advisor IALS, successfully concluded online today.

The talk was addressed by Dr. Tsering Stobdan, Scientist and Head, Horticulture Division, DRDO-DIHAR, on topic: Protected Cultivation in Ladakh. Dr. Imtiyaz Hussain, GDC, Kargil, moderated the whole session.

Dr. Amjad Ali graced the occasion with the welcome speech and introduced the speaker to the audience.

More than 60 participants including faculty members, research scholars, and students participated in this online talk.

The speaker of the session initially presented and highlighted the key challenges facing by the farmers of Ladakh due to harsh winter condition.

He said, that in terms of food dependency Ladakh is depend for  85% fruits  and 67% vegetables supply from outside.

He mainly stressed upon the black plastic mulching technique and passive solar greenhouse to increase the crop productivity during summer and winter respectively.

He also spoke on the advantages and benefits of new innovative Ladakh green house to traditional green house.

He presented the fruitful result and pictures of plants which they got during the course of study. He said that under Ladakh greenhouse project improving food security in Ladakh through deep winter greenhouse farming Rs. 76.44 crore has sanctioned by UT-Ladakh for both Leh and Kargil.

After his talk session was opened for question answer and at the end the DSW, UoL expressed his gratitude towards speaker and thanked to all participants.
