GMDC Zanskar organizes workshop on natural farming

Kargil, July 17: Govt. Model Degree College, Zanskar today organized one-day workshop on natural farming in collaboration with KVK, SKUAST-Unit Zanskar.

The event was aimed to develop an understanding and practical knowledge about farming. Around 30 students of the college participated in the workshop.

Dr Shabir Hussain, Scientist KVK spoke at length about natural farming and its importance. He appraised the students about the use of various modern farming techniques, including mulching and greenhouse.

The scientist explained the process of liquid manuring. Many modern farming tools and equipment were displayed and participants were appraised about its uses through demonstration.

Later, students visited the vegetable farm and greenhouse of KVK. They were excited to see the plant and fruit saplings of apricot, apple, cucumber, melon and varieties of cabbages.

Dr Shabir also shared some technical inputs about greenhouse farming and emphasized students to take up those techniques in the successful farming of various vegetables which are otherwise not possible in Zanskar.

Ahsan Ali, Assistant Professor Botany, extended gratitude to KVK, Unit Zanskar for their collaboration and wished to organize such events in the future as well.
