Kargil, June 14, 2023: Chairperson, National Commission for Women, Rekha Sharma today chaired a meeting at Conference Hall Baroo, Kargil with various stakeholders which includes One Stop Centre, Mahila Shakti Kendra, Women Police Station, Special Cell for Women and various agencies working for the cause of women.

Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Santosh Sukhadeve, Additional SP, Kargil Ifikhar Ahmad Chowdhary, Program Officer, ICDS, Chief Planning Officer, Abdul Hadi,  Special Coordinator, J&K and Ladakh Cell, National Commission for Women, Neha Mahajan, DPO Kargil, Padma Angmo, Assistant Labour Commissioner, Raziya Khatoon, District Social Welfare Officer, CDPO’s, Incharge CMO, Incharge, Special Cell for Women Kargil, Administrator, One Stop Centre Kargil, beside other concerned attended the meeting.

At the outset, the Chairperson was briefed about the various activities and awareness programs conducted for the welfare of women at different villages, Panchayat and Block levels with different departments.

She was informed that under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, 9,019 beneficiaries have been benefitted. It was informed that 63 awareness programs were organized by Special Cell for Women.

The Chairperson was also informed about the girls’ enrolment in schools and colleges. She highlighted achievements of various departments and also shared the proposals and plans.

Addressing the meeting, Chairperson NCW directed the concerned to introduce new skills for women such as housekeeping, data entry operator, hotel management, plumbing, electrician etc.

She stressed on the need for increasing programs in coordination with police and other allied departments for the effective functioning of the Special Cell.

The Chairperson NCW enquired about the complaints received by Special Cell for Women and said all the help should be provided to women who face any kind of violence.

She also stressed on the need for the dissemination of information about special cells and suggested involving genuine NGOs for awareness of digital empowerment, safety, security, entrepreneurship and legal awareness programs.

She also suggested collaborating with Airbnb to provide training for Self Help Group, homestay owners and she assured to take up the matter with higher authorities. Later, one NGO also interacted with her and requested for support.
