‘Justice for Ladakh’ Rally Held in Kargil, Protesters Seek Action Over September 24 Deaths

Kargil, September 23: The Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) on Tuesday organised a large protest rally and public gathering in Kargil under the banner “Justice for Ladakh” to commemorate the events of September 24, 2025.

The rally was attended by people from different parts of the district, university students, representatives of religious and political organisations, and members of civil society.

The procession began at the New Bus Stand in Kargil and passed through the main market before reaching Hussaini Park, where it turned into a public gathering. Participants carried banners and placards and raised slogans in support of their demands.

The gathering was addressed by KDA co-chairmen Haji Asgar Ali Karbalai and Sajjad Hussain Kargili, Member of Parliament Haji Hanifa Jan, Sheikh Hasnain Rizvi, Socialist Party leader Sandeep Pandey, students from Delhi, and representatives of various religious and political organisations.

The speakers paid tribute to the four youths who died during the protest-related incidents in Leh on September 24, 2025. They said the movement would continue until justice was delivered to the victims’ families and full accountability was established for the incident.

The speakers demanded compensation of Rs 1 crore each for the families of those who died and called for action against those responsible for the incident.

Addressing the gathering, the speakers also highlighted Ladakh’s long-standing constitutional and democratic demands and urged the government to address the political, constitutional and administrative issues facing the region.

They said demands concerning constitutional safeguards, democratic rights, protection of land, employment, culture and identity should not remain confined to assurances and announcements, and called for concrete action.

The gathering also saw strong concerns being raised over the latest policy and rules introduced by the Union Territory administration concerning Nautor land. The speakers urged the government not to take any decision that could adversely affect the existing rights and interests of local residents.

They said protection of land traditionally and historically used by the people of Ladakh was a major concern for local communities. They called for public concerns to be addressed before implementing any new land-related rules or policies.

The speakers warned that the protest movement could be expanded if concrete steps were not taken to address Ladakh’s long-standing demands. They said protests could also be organised again in New Delhi if required.

They further urged the government to make the dialogue process meaningful and respond to public sentiments and demands, instead of relying solely on announcements and assurances.

A large number of religious scholars associated with the Jamiat Ulama Ithna Ashariya Kargil and Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust, Kargil, participated in the rally. Students from Delhi and various universities, along with residents from different parts of Kargil district, also joined the protest.

The gathering concluded with tributes to those who died in the September 24, 2025 incidents and expressions of solidarity with their families. Participants also pledged to continue their peaceful struggle for what they described as the constitutional and democratic rights of the people of Ladakh.
