Leh, September 18, 2026/ VOL News Desk/ Chief Secretary, Union Territory of Ladakh, Ashish Kundra, today inspected the newly constructed Municipal Committee (MC) Shopping Complex near Polo Ground at Leh Main Market and reviewed its status, space utilisation, proposed commercial arrangements and overall functionality.

During the inspection, the Chief Secretary took detailed information from the concerned officers regarding the shop rates, proposed design and layout, available commercial space and the process for allotment of shops through auction. He directed the officers to ensure that the available spaces are planned and utilised in a transparent, systematic and economically viable manner, with due consideration to the requirements of local entrepreneurs and the commercial needs of the market.

The Chief Secretary also inspected the different floors and other facilities of the complex and sought details regarding the proposed rent structure, maintenance arrangements and utilisation of the terrace area. He observed the potential of the terrace space for development as a public-oriented commercial facility, including a cafe and other suitable amenities, while ensuring that the design and use of the space are compatible with the overall character and requirements of the complex.

During the visit, the Chief Secretary also interacted with shopkeepers in the nearby market area and sought information regarding the prevailing rental rates of commercial shops. He deliberated with the concerned officers on the functional use of the newly constructed complex and the need to ensure that its commercial spaces are utilised effectively, while taking into account the interests of local businesses and the broader commercial requirements of Leh Main Market.

The Chief Secretary emphasised that the shopping complex should not remain merely an infrastructure asset but should be developed as a well-planned, functional and sustainable commercial facility, with appropriate design, transparent allotment procedures, effective space utilisation and proper maintenance arrangements.

The Chief Secretary was accompanied by Secretary Planning Himanshu Gupta, Secretary Housing & Urban Development Department Arava Gopi Krishna, Deputy Commissioner Leh Romil Singh Donk, Executive Officer Municipal Committee Leh Atul Singh Mankotia, and other concerned officers.
