Karbala, August 04, 2026/VOL News Desk/ The of pilgrims arriving in Iraq to commemorate the Arbaeen pilgrimage of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) has reached nearly 22.19 million, with the holy city of Karbala witnessing a continuous influx of visitors. Extensive service arrangements, religious commemorations, and advanced medical initiatives are being put in place to support what is considered one of the world’s largest annual religious gatherings.

In preparation for comprehensive media coverage, more than 700 journalists, photographers, and media professionals are expected to cover this year’s Arbaeen pilgrimage. Local authorities have finalized arrangements to facilitate both domestic and international media, ensuring seamless reporting of the event.

Tawfiq al-Habbali, Director of Information and Government Communications at the Karbala Governorate, stated that a fully equipped media center has been established to cater to local, Arab, and international media organizations covering the Arbaeen ceremonies.

Meanwhile, the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) has launched, for the second consecutive year, a dedicated program to assist foreign pilgrims. The initiative aims to facilitate their stay in Karbala by providing essential guidance and necessary services.

On the security front, Karrar Mohammed Hamza, Head of the Electronic Surveillance Unit, revealed that additional surveillance cameras have been installed across key locations in the city. The existing system has also been upgraded through continuous maintenance and the integration of advanced recording devices capable of operating efficiently around the clock under varying conditions.

He further noted that the total number of operational surveillance cameras in Karbala has reached 168 this year. The development plan includes the establishment of new monitoring points to oversee security and service-related situations, promptly identify violations or shortcomings, and ensure quick response. These measures are also aimed at safeguarding pilgrims’ belongings and maintaining effective coordination with field units during emergencies.
