Apex Body Leh Announces ‘Month of Martyrs’ from August 24 to September 24, Demands ₹1 Crore Compensation for September 24 Victims
Leh, August 18/ VOL News Desk/ The Apex Body Leh has announced that a “Month of Martyrs” will be observed from August 24 to September 24 in support of those killed and injured in the September 24, 2025 incident.
Addressing a press conference in Leh, representatives of the Apex Body expressed serious concern over the alleged delay in providing adequate compensation to the victims and injured persons, withdrawal of police cases registered against youths following the incident, publication of the judicial inquiry report, and resumption of talks with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
The Apex Body said that during discussions with the government, it was agreed in principle that adequate compensation would be provided to those killed and injured in the September 24 incident, while police cases and charges registered against several youths following the incident would also be withdrawn. However, it said that despite considerable time having passed, there has been no significant progress on these issues.

The representatives described the September 24, 2025 incident as a serious episode in which four young men were killed in police firing during protests. The Apex Body demanded that the families of the four Ladakhi youths killed in the incident be provided ₹1 crore compensation each, citing the compensation announced for the families of youths killed following the NET paper leak.
The Apex Body also welcomed the government’s decision to provide compensation to those injured and withdraw police cases registered against children following the alleged use of pellet guns during a protest by the Cockroach Janta Party at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. However, the representatives said the September 24 incident was considerably more serious as protesters were subjected to firing, resulting in four deaths.
The leaders demanded a fresh review of all police cases and charges registered in connection with the September 24 incident and called for proceedings against innocent persons to be dropped. They said it was the government’s responsibility to address the difficulties being faced by the youths and their families following the incident.
The Apex Body also expressed serious concern over the delay of nearly a year in the judicial inquiry constituted to investigate the September 24 incident. It demanded that the inquiry be completed at the earliest and its report made public. It further called for legal action against any individual or institution found responsible for the incident.
The representatives also termed the delay in ongoing discussions with the MHA on various demands concerning Ladakh as a matter of concern. They urged the government to expedite the dialogue process on issues concerning the people of Ladakh and take concrete steps to fulfil commitments already made.
According to the Apex Body, the “Month of Martyrs” from August 24 to September 24 will be dedicated to paying tribute to those killed in the September 24, 2025 incident and highlighting the demands of their families, the injured and affected youths. Various programmes and public activities will be organised during the period to draw the government’s attention to these issues.
At the conclusion of the press conference, the Apex Body urged the government to resolve all pending matters on a priority basis, including adequate financial compensation for the families of the deceased and injured, withdrawal of cases against youths, immediate publication of the judicial inquiry report, and action against those found responsible.
