JD Information Chairs Awareness Meeting on ‘Gems of India’ Challenge, Calls for Maximum Participation
Kargil, July 22: Joint Director, Information Department, UT Ladakh, Mohd Taqi, today chaired an awareness meeting with representatives of the local media, members of the Press Club Kargil, digital influencers, and officials of the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Kargil, to discuss the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting’s newly launched ‘Gems of India’ Challenge and to ensure its effective outreach across Ladakh.
During the meeting, the Joint Director briefed the participants about the Government of India’s flagship initiative aimed at identifying, nurturing, and promoting grassroots digital creators while strengthening India’s creative economy. He informed that the challenge encourages creators to produce authentic digital content highlighting the culture, heritage, tourism, traditions, history, and unique achievements of their respective districts.
Mohd Taqi highlighted that the initiative, launched under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, builds upon the MyWAVES citizen creator platform under WAVES OTT.

Emphasising the importance of public participation, the Joint Director instructed all media representatives, Press Club members, digital influencers, and DIPR officials to create widespread awareness about the contest and encourage maximum participation from students, youth, photographers, videographers, social media creators, and other talented individuals across Ladakh.
He said the challenge offers a unique opportunity for creators to showcase the rich cultural heritage, breathtaking landscapes, traditions, and inspiring stories of Ladakh before a national audience, while contributing to the promotion of the region’s unique identity through digital storytelling.
The participants assured the Joint Director of their full cooperation in disseminating information about the ‘Gems of India’ Challenge and mobilising enthusiastic participation from across the Union Territory to ensure Ladakh is strongly represented in the national initiative.
