Leh, July 30, 2026/ VOL News Desk/ Chief Secretary, UT Ladakh, Ashish Kundra, undertook a three-day tour of Nubra District to review the progress of developmental works, inspect key public infrastructure projects, assess tourism-related initiatives, and evaluate the implementation of various government schemes across the district.

The Chief Secretary was accompanied by Administrative Secretary, Planning, Development and Monitoring Department (PD&MD), Himanshu Gupta, IAS; Deputy Commissioner, Nubra; Senior Superintendent of Police, Nubra; Staff Officer to the Chief Secretary; Heads of Departments; and other concerned officers.

On the first day of the tour, the Chief Secretary visited Diskit, where he attended a Special Registration Camp for hotels and guest houses and inspected stalls put up by progressive farmers and local industries. He reviewed the progress of the registration process and interacted with stakeholders regarding the promotion of tourism and entrepreneurship in the region.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Secretary urged all stakeholders present to spread awareness about the tourism portal and encourage hotel owners, guest house operators, and homestay owners to register on the platform. He emphasised that the portal has been developed to create a comprehensive database of tourism establishments, which will facilitate better planning and provide various benefits to registered stakeholders in the future.

Expressing satisfaction over the successful conduct of the registration camp, the Chief Secretary encouraged aspiring entrepreneurs to avail themselves of bank loan facilities and other government benefits to establish and expand their businesses. He emphasised that financial assistance through banks can play a vital role in promoting entrepreneurship and strengthening the local tourism sector.

The Chief Secretary appreciated the efforts of the district administration and congratulated the Tourism Society of Nubra for successfully organising the camp. Members of the Tourism Society of Nubra welcomed the dignitaries with traditional khataks, while certificates were distributed to stakeholders who had already completed their registration on the tourism portal.

The Chief Secretary also inspected the library of the under-construction Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Avasiya Vidyalaya Residential Hostel, Diskit, Nubra, and directed the concerned officers to ensure the availability of computers and adequate books for the students. He further inspected the ongoing construction of boys’ and girls’ hostels, the multipurpose hall, and the science block at Government Degree College, Diskit, as well as the under-construction Government Higher Secondary School, Diskit.

Later, he visited the 220/33 KV GIS Grid Station at Diskit and reviewed the progress of the 220 KV Transmission Line project. Stressing the importance of timely completion, the Chief Secretary directed the concerned departments to ensure that the project is completed within the stipulated timeframe while maintaining the prescribed quality standards. He also reviewed the pace of work and instructed the executing agencies to expedite the projects for their early completion.

The Chief Secretary later visited the Solid Resource Management Centre (SRMC), Diskit, to review the functioning of the facility and assess the progress of ongoing works related to waste management and sanitation in the region. He directed the concerned officials to strengthen waste management infrastructure and ensure the effective implementation of sanitation measures across the district.

At Hunder, the Chief Secretary reviewed the progress of the Sand Dune Development Project and inspected the Camel Centre. During the inspection, he directed the concerned departments to establish tourist , public washrooms, and seating facilities to enhance visitor convenience. He further instructed that the installation of benches and other basic amenities be completed by the end of August. The Chief Secretary also directed the concerned departments to construct an open-air theatre at the site to promote cultural activities and enhance the overall visitor experience.

Thereafter, the Chief Secretary visited the Artisan Bazaar, where he interacted with local artisans and reviewed the initiatives undertaken to promote traditional handicrafts and strengthen rural livelihoods. He appreciated the efforts of the artisans in preserving Nubra’s rich cultural heritage and stressed the need to provide greater market access and promotional support for local products.
