Apex Body Leh and Kargil Democratic Alliance delegation reaches New Delhi, visits Medanta Hospital for Sonam Wangchuk’s health inquiry
New Delhi, 22 July/ VOL News Desk/ A high-level joint delegation of Apex Body Leh (ABL) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA), active for the resolution of public and social issues of Ladakh, has reached New Delhi and initiated activities to visit renowned environmentalist, educationist and social activist Sonam Wangchuk for health inquiry and to express solidarity with him.
According to sources, the delegation comprising Kargil Democratic Alliance Co-Chairman Haji Asgar Ali Karbalai, Member of Parliament Haji Mohammad Hanifa Jan, Sajjad Hussain Kargili and Apex Body Leh Co-Chairman Chhering Dorje Lakrook, Mohammad Shafi Lasu, Ashraf Ali Barcha, D. Chen Champa and Ghulam Mehdi Yabgu reached New Delhi yesterday. According to information, the delegation will visit Medanta Hospital today, where Sonam Wangchuk is undergoing treatment, to inquire about his well-being and also express solidarity with him.
It is recalled that Sonam Wangchuk was on hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi for the past nearly twenty days. His protest was ongoing in support of students’ demands regarding alleged irregularities in the NEET exam and the paper leak issue, educational reforms, and the demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Last Sunday morning, Delhi Police took action during the ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar and took Sonam Wangchuk into custody and first shifted him to Safdarjung Hospital. Due to the hunger strike, his health had been significantly affected, after which he was transferred to Medanta Hospital for further treatment, where he is under observation.
Sources informed that after reaching New Delhi, members of Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance also met with the protesting students and youth present at Jantar Mantar, listened to their demands, and expressed support for the right to peaceful democratic protest.
This joint visit by the two important public platforms of Ladakh is being seen as an expression of solidarity with Sonam Wangchuk, support for educational reforms, and a demonstration of a common stance on public issues.
