Kargil, May 15, 2026/ VOL News Desk/ Commissioner Secretary, PHE/I&FC Department, Ladakh, visited Kargil and reviewed various urban infrastructure and public utility projects aimed at strengthening essential services in Kargil Town.

The Commissioner Secretary was accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, SE, PHE/I&FC, Kargil along with officers of the PHE Department, Municipal Committee, and Mechanical Department.

During the visit, the Commissioner Secretary inspected the existing 1 MGD Water Treatment Plant (WTP) and reviewed the present status of water supply infrastructure and related facilities. Discussions were held regarding ongoing works, operational challenges, and new proposals for improving and expanding public utility services across Kargil Town. On-spot water quality testing was also conducted during the visit to assess the quality of drinking water being supplied to the public.

The Commissioner Secretary also reviewed the status of sewerage schemes, Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant (FSTP), and Solid Waste Management facilities. Officers briefed the Commissioner Secretary about the present status of various projects and the future plans for augmentation and upgradation of infrastructure to meet the growing requirements of the town.

During the review, directions were issued to prepare proposals in a comprehensive and zone-wise manner, clearly indicating the number of households, service coverage, infrastructure requirements, and future projections for effective planning and implementation.
