Kavinder Gupta Steps Down as Ladakh’s Lieutenant Governor After Nine Months

Leh: 05 March 2026/ VOL News Desk/ The Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, has stepped down from his post, ending his nine-month tenure. He had assumed office on July 18, 2025.

No official reason has been announced for his departure. However, sources say the move may be related to his possible return to active politics and organizational work. There has been no formal confirmation about this.

His tenure also saw several political and social developments in the region. On September 24, 2025, protests by demonstrators demanding statehood for Ladakh and its inclusion under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India turned violent in some areas. At least four people were killed and more than 60 others were injured during clashes between protesters and security forces.

The incident drew wide attention and renewed discussions about constitutional safeguards and political representation for the people of Ladakh. The administration later took steps to restore normalcy and maintain law and order in the region.
