Kargil Sees Massive Protests Against Terror Attack on Islamabad Imam Bargah
VoL News Desk/ February 08, 2026: Large-scale protests were held in Kargil district on Sunday against a terrorist attack on an Imambargah in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad, in which dozens of worshippers were killed and injured during Friday prayers.
The attack took place at Imambargah Qaiser-e-Khateeja al-Kubra in the Tarlai area of Islamabad. Condemning the incident, religious and social organisations in Kargil organised separate protest marches, drawing participation from a large number of people.
After the Zuhrain prayers, protest rallies were taken out under the banners of the Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust, Kargil, and Jamiat-ul-Ulama Ithna Asharia, Kargil. Demonstrators carried photographs of the victims and raised slogans condemning terrorism and sectarian violence. Slogans in support of the persecuted Shia community in Pakistan were also raised.
The rally organised by the Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust began from the Jamia Masjid, Kargil, passed through Lal Chowk, Main Bazaar, Khomeini Chowk and Islamia School Chowk, and concluded again at Lal Chowk. Meanwhile, the procession led by Jamiat-ul-Ulama Ithna Asharia moved through Khomeini Chowk and Lal Chowk before culminating at Ithna Asharia Chowk.
Addressing the gatherings, speakers expressed deep grief and anger over the attack. They alleged that banned sectarian outfits such as Sipah-e-Sahaba, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, and extremist elements linked to ISIS continue to operate in Pakistan, enabling repeated attacks on religious minorities. The speakers demanded that the Government of Pakistan take immediate and stringent action against those responsible for the attack.
The speakers also expressed solidarity with the families of the victims and called upon the international community to take effective and concrete steps to prevent such incidents. Emphasis was laid on ensuring foolproof security at Imambargahs and other places of worship to protect civilians.
Protests in Sankoo Sub-Division
Similar protests were reported from the Sankoo sub-division, where a demonstration was organised by Anjuman Sahib-ul-Zaman after Zuhrain prayers. A large number of faithful participated, registering strong opposition to terrorism and violence.
At the conclusion of the protests, religious organisations in Kargil offered prayers for the elevation of the martyrs’ status, speedy recovery of the injured, and patience for the bereaved families. They stressed the need for a united global effort to combat terrorism and sectarian extremism.
